Bald Truths About Male Pattern Baldness

Bald Truths About Male Pattern Baldness

While many men wish it was a men’s health myth, the truth is male pattern baldness affects all men to some degree as they grow older. Also known as androgenetic alopecia, male pattern baldness usually begins at the temples, with the hairline gradually receding. After time, the hair at the crown of the head thins and disappears.

You can inherit male pattern baldness

Like many elements of men’s health, male pattern baldness is an inherited trait, so if your father and grandfather went bald early, chances are you will too.

Many men are affected by the condition

Significant male pattern baldness affects about one in five men (20%) in their 20s, roughly one in three men (30%) in their 30s and nearly half of men (40%) in their 40s.

There may be a connection between male pattern baldness and prostate cancer

Because testosterone is partly responsible for prostate and hair growth, studies have shown that men who experience vertex hair loss (hair loss from the crown) are at an increased risk of prostate cancer.

Hair products aren’t a threat

Contrary to popular belief, hair gels and hair sprays don’t increase your risk or cause male pattern baldness. There are no active ingredients in these products that would incite male baldness, but if you are worried you can switch to natural-based products.

There are drugs available for baldness

Drugs such as Minoxidil and Finasteride can be used to stimulate hair growth. Minoxidil is a topical treatment applied straight to slow hair loss and in some cases grow new hair. Finasteride is a prescription pill that decreases the rate of hair loss.

What We Give Back To Society

Thank you for supporting our clinic by being part of our community and patient base. From 2015 we have been proud sponsors of and avid supporters of children in sport across many disciplines. As parents ourselves we recognise the importance of active body, active minds and promoting healthy living from a young age.

Many of the clubs, teams and individuals we have sponsored over the years have excelled to win premierships or be selected as representatives of QLD, Australia and even New Zealand.

Among the young athletes have been many that have travelled both Nationally and Internationally to a vast range of locations. We always encourage those that have travelled to countries where children are less fortunate than themselves to share the experience by providing them with care packages and sports equipment for those children.

Additionally we also support teens, adults and seniors in Netball, Rugby Union, Basketball, Hockey, Equestrian and V8 supercars.
